Research & Development

R & D... I like the sound of that! Here I plan on at least documenting the projects I am currently working on. Because of complications and stipulations with work, the projects will only be personal projects. Hobbies if you like. For the last couple of years I have seen it true, and proved it true on more than one occasion. Anything is Possible, However Impractical or Improbable. To some that kind of statement might seem frightening or daunting, to me it gives me drive to wake up each and every day.

The Projects listed here, may be long standing projects, or just code that is currently in a developmental state, before it gets transfered to the Web Tools section of this site.

Research & Development

  1. Redesign & Reconfigure of Raclaw.com

    Project Started:  2009-11-13
This has been a rather involved project, but certainly long overdue. Being a database and systems engineer by trade, and not a web designer, I opted for a standard form. After much searching for templates available at reasonable prices I came across http://www.4templates.com/. From there I was able to start drafting in html on my personal computer, before inserting php and various database driven elements.
I have come a long way, but there is still more to do. And of course change the standard graphics!

  2. Peek Resources

    Project Started:  2009-09-15
I recently acquired a Peek, and have started playing with the various resources it has to offer. I like how it can not be paired with Google Voice as well as nearly any other email client. I have started playing with applications like Peek Maps, and others and have grown disappointed that there are no text based games for the Peek or other email capable devices. Even simple games, that one can play against a computer while sitting in a terminal waiting for a plane, or other such transport, to arrive.

  3. String & Array based Arithmetic

    Project Started:  2009-08-25
While trying to ponder Fermat's Last Theorem I realized that if I was to build a system and script to go and solve this problem and problem's like it, I would very quickly be held back by the limitations of standard arithmetic opperators inside normal programming languages. But I knew how I wanted the math to be calculated, so I started with a simple Math Adder program in PERL, and found some luck. I then compared it to what the computer would return as a valid integer, and this new code proved superior inside of 5 minutes. It still needs time and development... But it has gotten me back to basics, and I like where this project is headed. More information for follow.

  4. Predictable Mood Range/Percentage

    Project Started:  2009-04-20
Over the last few years I have seen more and more take offs of the Ambient Orb. And while I think that is an interesting concept, my inner geek is more interested in the methods that could be used to generate that kind of percentage, than the actual concern of how to display such a percentage.
So I started playing with estimated values in my own life (i.e. The day of the week, the hour of the day, the minute of the hour, etc.) and more comically than not found that most of the time, at least based on this crude basis, I should be happier than I am actually most days. This new found inspiration has renewed my smile on my face, put a spring in my step, and possibly made me more receptive for a recently formed romantic relationship.
As it has helped me, it could likely help others, so I will be sharing it when I have time. Either just as an algorithm, or perhaps an application... That is yet to be determined.

  5. Mega Millions Numerical Analysis

    Project Started:  2008-08-08
At best it is a long shot, but the math behind a rational Numerical Analysis, at least makes this site interesting. The Mega Millions Lottery is run in CA • GA • IL • MD • MA • MI • NJ • NY • OH • TX • VA • WA

Projects Completed

Project Parrot
Date Completed:  2009-08-21
This project was a: Failure
The site seemed like a good idea, a place where my fellow ParrotHeads could get together and talk about what they were bringing. Who needs what. And so forth. But it was not adopted. I do not know where the fault lies, but it is probably mostly on me.

Learn to Drive a Manual
Date Completed:  2009-08-15
This project was a: Yet Unknown
I did manage to pick up the vehicle, add a stereo, CB, and other goodies. But the vehicle died 72.35 miles away from the location where I purchased the vehicle. I did drive it, alone. On hills, in traffic, and on the interstate. But the vehicle was damn near undrivable by the end, so much so that the car would die whenever I fully depressed the clutch, whether it was in gear or not.

Front License Plate Retractor
Date Completed:  2009-03-21
This project was a: Success
This Mod, had a few hiccups along the way, and required far more modification to the front end of the Camaro than I had originally intended but it did work. Well that is until I let my mother borrow the car. Now I just need to make a new bracket... when time permits.
